Follow these simple steps to fix the problem.

Switch off the central power

First and foremost, you will have to switch off the power of your entire house. This is a safety measure that needs to be taken, especially since water is a good conductor of electricity and you may receive a nasty electric shock otherwise.

Remove the screws from the fixture

Most conventional swimming pool lights come with a single Philips screw, so using your Philips screwdriver unscrew the fixture.

Pry out the light from the box

You can use a flat head screwdriver for this job. Wiggle out the light from the fixture in the swimming pool and bring it out to the side of the pool. Again, you should remember to have the power source switched off at this point for your own safety.

Unscrew the lens and replace the light

Yes, it’s that simple. All you need to do next is unscrew the prying lens off the fixture and replace the old damaged light with a brand new one. If you have a new pool light, you will probably have tabs instead of screws. Whatever be the case, the replacement process remains the same.

Check the power once

Switch on the main power source of your home and check whether the bulb is working or not. Undoubtedly, it will work if it is a new bulb, but a temporary check ensures that you don’t have to go through the process of unscrewing the fixture once again in case the bulb does not work.

After changing the bulb:

Once you are happy with the bulb change, you need to start re-fitting the fixture in place. Turn the power switch and source off once again. Replace the tabs and reassemble the whole fixture carefully.

You can test for leaks in the fixture by submerging it in water for a few moments. Once you are sure that there are no leaks, you can reattach the fixture in the box.

Place the box in its correct place in the swimming pool and fix the screw in place. Then all you need to do is switch the electricity back on and voila! Your work is done.

Make sure that you don’t reattach the lens while you are testing the replacement bulb. The heat from the bulb may cause the lens to crack. Also, once the bulb is replaced, be careful with it. Make sure that you don’t drop it since the filament in the bulb is fragile and gets damaged easily.
